Hasting Funeral Friday Afternoon
Special to the Journal.
Maxwell, Feb. 3--The funeral services for E. C. Hastings were held Friday at one o'clock at the Hasting home. Rev. B. H. Guthrie of the Maxwell Presbyterian church had charge of the service. The body was taken to Newton for burial. Pall bearers were Jack Vallandingham, L. B. Olinger, George Coughenour, I. W. Douglass, M. H. Troup and Els Gibson.Mr. Hasting was born Aug. 12, 1857 at Milford, Mass., and departed this life Jan. 31, 1934. Then a young man he came west to Davenport, where he was associated in business with his brother, George Hastings.
Later he engaged in business in Newton. Here he met and married Belle Oden. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Walter Trexler.
The 15 years before coming to Maxwell, Mr. Hastings was connected with the D. M. Johnson Clothing Co., of Des Moines.
He moved with his family to Maxwell in 1902 where he entered the clothing business. Mr. Hastings was one of the oldest business men of Maxwell, being in business about 32 years.
Mr. Hastings is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Walter Trexler, one brother George of Arcadia, Neb., and one sister Addie Tucker of Boston, Mass.
