Funeral Services for John Dunahoo
Special to the Journal.
Maxwell, Jan. 23--Funeral services for John F. Dunahoo were held Sunday at the M. E. church in Maxwell. Rev. W. N. Scheuermann had charge of the service. The songs The Old Rugged Cross, Home of the Soul and Going Down the Valley were sung by double male quartette composed of Ross Olinger, Clark John, Earl Bowen, M. H. Troup, J. A. Olinger, Gurton Nelson, Harry Fackler and Claire Olinger with Mrs. Gurton Nelson at the piano. The pall bearers were V. D. Gamble, Will Gamble, Chas. Hizer, Dan Meyers, Welden Reagan and Leonard Bryant. Burial was in the Iowa Center cemetery.John F. Dunahoo, son of John and Rachel Dunahoo was born June 26, 1862 near Iowa Center and passed away at his home west of Maxwell, Jan. 18, 1934 at the age of 71 years, 6 month and 22 days.
He was united in marriage to Mary Glasgow March 20, 1889. To this union five children were born, three of whom preceded him in death, they are Curtiss and Sylvia who died in infancy and Milford Ross who grew to maturity. Two of them survive him, Mrs. Arley Wolf of Collins and C. Verne Dunahoo of Tripoli. Besides these two children he is survived by his wife, one brother M. R. Dunahoo of Maxwell and one sister Mrs. Albert Whitinger of Lebanon, Ind. Others who survive him are many friends and relatives.
Mr. Dunahoo grew to manhood in this community and spent his entire life time in Story county. He and his wife united with the Evangelical church in Iowa Center many years ago. Later they transferred their membership to the Maxwell M. E. church in which organization he held his membership at the time of his departure.
