Funeral Services for Mrs. Elizabeth Briggs Sunday Afternoon

Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Briggs, 72, who died at the home of her son Royal here early Friday morning will be held at the Morfoot Funeral Home Sunday afternoon.

Dr. Loose, pastor of the First Methodist church in Nevada, of which she was a member, was in charge and Harold G. Kruwell sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "One Sweetly Solemn Thought." Mrs. Hathaway was at the piano.

Burial was made in the Nevada cemetery by the side of the husband, who died several years ago.

The second daughter of Henry and Celestia Dierkes, Elizabeth Lucinda, was born in Lincoln, Ill., on Nov. 27, 1868.

She graduated from Havana (Illinois) high school and for the following ten years taught school in Lincoln county, Illinois.

On May 12, 1895 he married Edgar F. Briggs. In the same month of that year they came to Nevada, where they established their home.

To this union were born three sons, Edgar Lyle having died in infancy, while Home and Royal survive.

She was reared a Methodist and in that faith she lived and died. Until recent years, when ill health prohibited, she had been very active in the church and Sunday school. Her entire life had been devoted unselfishly to her husband, who preceded her in death fifteen years ago, and to her home and family.

The last few months of her life were spent at the home of her son Royal and during most of that time the older son, Homer and his wife were also with her. In the morning of Friday, March 8 at 4:15 p. m., she peacefully passed away.

She is survived by the sons Home and Royal Briggs and their wives, two sister, Etta Hampson [should be Hamson] of Pekin, Ill., and Miss Olive Dierkes of Delavan, Ill.; an aunt, Mrs. Tina Callahan* of Nevada and Chicago, and two cousins, Frank H. Kinsman* of Nevada and Charles Peterson* of Chicago.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: "Tina Callahan" was born Maria Carolina Clementine Dierkes daughter of Henrich Dierkes and Louisa Wolf. Charles Peterson, mentioned as cousin of Elizabeth Briggs, was Clementine's son.

Frank Kinsman was Elizabeth's cousin on her mother's side. Her mother was Celestia (Ingraham) Dierkes. Her mother's sister was Martha (Ingraham) Kinsman and Francis "Frank" Kinsman was the son of Thomas Kinsman and Martha (Ingraham) Kinsman.
