Funeral Services For Ralph S. Norton Held At Zearing

Funeral services were conducted for Ralph S. Norton, from the Bethel Evangelical Church in Zearing on Sunday, May 1, at 2:00 p.m. The Reverend Darald D. Eller officiated at the service. Music was furnished by a male quartet composed of Dale Johnston, Glen McBride, Eldon Crain and Paul Lundy accomapnie by Mrs. Walter Lund.

Casket bearers were James Walters, Lewis Phillips, Marion Phillips, Hilko Mein, Leo Jones and James Roche. Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Lela Adams and Mrs. Guy Clatterbuck. Interment was in the Zearing Cemetery.

Obituary

Ralph S. Norton, son of Samuel J. and Maggie Norton, was born October 10, 1889, on a farm in Grant Township, Hardin County, Iowa. After living there a year and half he moved with his parents to his grandfather's farm, where he lived until his death April 28, 1955 at the of 65 years, 6 months and 18 days. As he grew to manhood he assisted his father in farming the old homestead and later secured land in Story County.

He was united in marriage to Maude May Vitty [should be McVitty] of Zearing, Iowa, September 12, 1917, in Toledo, Iowa. To this union were born three children.

He leave to the remembrance of his friends and relatives the memories of many happy times spent together, including the Silver Wedding anniversary of 1942. He attended the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Zearing regularly and spent much spare time reading the Bible and Bible literature during his later years. His entire life was devoted to farming up to the day he was taken to the hospital. He had been in failing health for about 5 years one.

He is survived by his wife, Maude, two daughters, Velva Pearl Norton of Dayton, Ohio; and Avonelle Marie Moss of Waterloo; one son, Kenneth three grandchildren, Carol and Leonard Moss and Barbara Jean Norton; also one sister, Nora; one uncle, Will Madole of Britt, Tight of Long Beach, Calif.; Iowa, and a host of relatives and friends.
