Funeral Services For Leonard Charles Evans
Funeral services for Leonard Charles Evans were held in the Collins Church of Christ, Thursday afternoon, July 12, at 2:00, with the Pastor Rev. Frank Sutton officiating. Mrs. Ivan Mullihan and Miss Lola Oswalt sang "Near to the Heart of God" and Miss Lola Oswalt as soloist sang "God's Tomorrow," with Mrs. Fred Mead as accompanist.
Casket bearers were: Henry Dodd, Earl Dodd, Lawrence Dodd, Myrl Brown, Andrew Johnston and Earl Robinson. Mrs. Ora Hanson and Mrs. Clarence Morrison took care of the many beautiful flowers.
Interment was in the Collins Evergreen cemetery.
Leonard Charles Evans, was born in Bureau county, Ill., February 10, 1874, and passed away at his home in Collins, July 10, 1951 at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 20 days. He was a son of Charles Wesley and Orcelia Evans.
On April 1, 1896, he was married to Ordema Jane Dodd. They were the parents of seven children. Two of them preceded him in death. Frank passed away in 1910 and Charles in 1918. The children who survive are a daughter, Mrs. Roland Long and four sons, Paul, Wayne and Howard of Collins and Theodore of Rhodes. He leaves to mourn his going the five children mentioned, fourteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many relatives and friends.
Mr. Evans made farming his life work. Mr. and Mrs. Evans have the unusual record of living 54 years on one farm.
About a year ago his health began to fail and on last October 1, 1951, they moved to Collins. Since then he had a number of strokes and several heart attacks but in a remarkable way, under the doctor's care and good nursing at home, he rallied from them. The fatal attack came Tuesday morning, July 10. Mr. Evans was a good citizen and a member of the Collins Church of Christ.
