Funeral Services Held at Honey Creek for Mrs. Max Hefley
Special to the Journal.
Zearing, Jan. 29--Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Honey Creek church for Mrs. Max Hefley of Newton, former Zearing woman. Rev. C. A. Claypool of Sheffield, conducted the funeral ceremony. Mrs. Horatio Adams, Miss May Bayney of St. Ansgar and Miss Louise Joy of Union had charge of the flowers. The pall bearers were Dale Tisdale, Fay Rankin, Louis Phillips, Russell McVitty, Curtis Henderson and Verl Perisho of Marshalltown. Burial was in Honey Creek cemetery.Fern Harriett, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harley P. Rhodes was born Nov. 8, 1913 on a farm southwest of New Providence, Hardin county, Iowa and passed away Jan. 21, 1938, at Newton.
She grew to young womanhood in the Illinois Grove neighborhood, attending high school in Zearing. November 2, 1932, she was united in marriage to Max J. Hefley, and to this union were born two daughters Maxine age 5 years and Joan age 3.
In early life she united with the Friends church and remained a faithful member.
The last five years she has resided with her family in Newton and passed away at the Skiff Memorial hospital in Newton, Jan. 21, 1938, after an illness of several weeks which she bore with patience.
She was a loving and faithful wife and mother and will be greatly missed by her loved ones as by many relatives and friends.
She leaves her husband, two daughters, father, mother and sister Ina and many relatives and friends.

Hefley, Newton, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Swaggart, Dale Rash and Miss Pauline Rhodes, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Riley, Miss Faye Hefley all of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Frank McKim and sons of Nevada, Mrs. May Hefley, sons Francis, Lyle, William and daughter Lola May of Hardy, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Rhodes of Dows, Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Young of Grinnell, Miss Reva Rhodes of Ames, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Dickenson of Owasa, and many from towns of Eldora, Zearing, Clemons, New Providence and St. Anthony, also Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Rhodes and daughters Colleen and Shirley of Roland.
