THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, May 23, 1901, page 1. "OBITUARY OF MRS. MARY STRICKLER - Mary Harshman was born November 4, 1819, at Connellsville, Fayette county, Pa. There she was married to Abraham Strickler in 1840. They moved to near Toledo, Tama county, Iowa, in 1864, living there one years, when they moved to Jasper county where they stayed two years, thence they moved to one and three-fourths miles east of Maxwell. Three years ago they moved to Collins, where Mr. Strickler died two years ago, June 13th. Mrs. Stickler united with the Baptist church when she fifteen years of age, but there being no church of that denomination in this vicinity she transferred he membership to the Church of Christ. She died May 12, 1901, at her home in Collins at ten minutes to four o'clock a. m. The funeral service was held at the Church of Christ at two p. m. Monday was attended by the relatives, neighbors and friends of the departed. Rev. Nelson, of Des Moines preaching the sermon. The interment was in Collins cemetery, where all that was mortal of the deceased was laid to rest beside the grave of her departed husband. The nearest relative of deceased is a sister who resides at Adair, Ill., but could not be present at the funeral. Mrs. Mary McKinley, niece of deceased, lived with her. Mrs. Stickler lived beyond the allotted span, being in her eighty-second year when she died. During the thirty-four years of her residence in this vicinity she was held in high esteem by her neighbors and friends. She was a good woman with a kind heart, that sympathized with the poor and needy, who never left her door hungry or uncared for. She has gone from earth's labors and cares to rest in peace. - Collins Clipper.
