Mrs. Lem Oxley, 87 Dies in Hospital Here This Morning

Mrs. Lemuel Oxley, 87, 1432 4th St., died this morning at Story County Hospital, where she had been a patient for the past 3 weeks. She had been in failing health for the past two years.

Born January 8, 1878, in Story County, she was the daughter of Peter and Priscilla Huffman. She had lived her entire lifetime in Story County and was married in 1925 to Lemuel Oxley. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church, the Golden Agers and the Linger Lounge.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Mert Ferguson of Grant Pass, Oregon; Wesley Ferguson of Lisbon; two step-sons, Sam Oxley of Nevada and Orville Oxley of Minneapolis, Minn.; one daughter, Mrs. Tom Maroney of Nevada; 30 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Dora Taylor of Mason City an Mrs. Violet Shearer of Ames.

Preceding her in death were her parents, two sons, one step-son, two daughters, two brothers, 7 sisters and her first husband, David Ferguson, who died in 1919.

Funeral services will be held from the Nevada Assembly of God Church on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Leslie H. Howard officiating. Burial will be in the Nevada cemetery. The body will remain at the Ryan Funeral Home until Wednesday noon when it will be taken to the church to await the funeral services.
