THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, January 28, 1971, page 1, column 3. “RUTH SCOTT – Mrs. Ruth E. Scott, 75, of Maxwell died in the Lutheran Hospital Monday evening following a coronary attack suffered on Sunday. She was a longtime Maxwell resident, except for a few years spent in Lincoln, Neb. They returned to Maxwell when her husband retired. Surviving are her husband Forest; one son, Dean Scott of Fairfield; two grandchildren; one great grandchild and one sister, Mrs. Iona Whitney of Nevada. Rev. DeWitt Stauffer will officiate at the 1:30 p.m. services on Thursday afternoon in the Maxwell Presbyterian Church.”
THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, February 4, 1971, page 1, column 3. “RUTH E. SCOTT – Ruth E. Longnecker, daughter of Charles and Alice Cole Longnecker, was born May 28, 1895, on a farm near Collins, Iowa and departed this life at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, on Jan. 25, 1971, at the age of 75 years. She entered the hospital Sunday morning suffering from a massive heart attack. At the age of 5 years, she, with her parents, moved to Maxwell, where she grew to womanhood. She attended the Maxwell Public Schools and graduated in 1914. She was married to Forest Scott on Feb. 10, 1915, at Maxwell. To this union, one son, “Dean” was born. She was a life long member of the Presbyterian Church, also had membership in Clubs. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Forest, son, Dean, two grandchildren and one great grandchild, Eugene, who resides in Chicago and Lois Ann, a student of Missouri State University at Columbia, Mo. For twenty-five years of her life she and Forest made their home in Lincoln, Nebraska, where she was active in church and club work. Ruth loved her home and took great interest in it. She will be missed by many people. Besides her husband and son and family, she leaves one sister, Iona Whitney of Nevada, and a number of brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, besides many friends and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her mother and father and two brothers. Funeral services were held on Thursday, Jan. 28, 1971 at 1:30 p.m., in the Maxwell Presbyterian Church, with Rev. DeWitt Stauffer officiating. Miss Lori Eatwell furnished the organ music. The floral arrangements were in charge of Mrs. Grace Douglass and Mrs. Pauline Cuff. Casket bearers were Harold, Don and James Higgs, Leonard Dueland, Barry Thomas and Verl Myers. Interment was in the Maxwell Cemetery.”
