John Kimberley Dies; Was Hurt In Auto Accident
John I. Kimberley, 77, of rural Collins, died Saturday the result of an automobile accident 5 miles southeast of Collins.
Kimberley was injured fatally in a two-car smashup at a county road intersection near Collins in northwest Jasper County.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at the Collins Methodist Church with Rev. Wilton Grant in charge. Burial will be in the Peoria Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ervil (Wilma) Bowers in Collins until 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Bowers, three grandchildren, Mrs. Billy (Karol) Waterhouse, Mrs. William (Sharon) Thompson and Miss Connie Bowers, one great grandchild, Tracy Lynn Waterhouse; two brothers, J. W. Kimberley of Baxtr, two sisters, Mrs. Stanley (Nettie) Beals of Collins and Mrs. Mary Pearson of Maxwell. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1965, two brothers and one sister.
Kimberley attended the Collins Methodist Church and was vice-chairman of the Jasper County ASCS for many years and had also served on the Jasper County Board of Review for several years.
Kimberley was born December 27, 1888 in northwest Jasper County, the son of William and Mary Cleverly Kimberley. He attended rural schools and was married to Opal Irene Kendig February 12, 1913 in Des Moines. He farmed his entire life in northwest Jasper County and had lived on the present farm since 1914. He retired in 1956.
Boyd-Nickell Funeral Home in Baxter is in charge of services.
