Final Rites for Malinda Halverson
Special to the Journal.
Slater, June 30 -- Funeral services for Mrs. Malinda Halverson, 88, were held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and 2 o'clock at the Hauge's Lutheran church. Services were in charge of Rev. E. R. Rorem.Mrs. E. C. Rood and Mrs. Ben Hokel arranged the many beautiful flowers.
Two duets, "Jesus, Lover of My Soul" and "Lights of Home" were sung by Mesdames M. S. Heggen and A. L. Peterson. The pallbearers were Roy Fredrickson of Marshalltown, Kermit Johnson of Madrid, Adrian and Ole Halverson of Huxley, Billy and Kingsley Schaudt. Burial was made in the Slater cemetery.
Malinda Fredrickson was born in Shold, Norway, Dec. 17, 1852, and died at her home in Slater, June 18, 1941, at the age of 88 years, 6 months and one day. Her parents were Frederica and Thorbjorn Frederickson. She came to America in 1882 to Sheldahl, Ia., where she later married Ole Halverson and they made their home on a farm south of Slater a number of years and then moved into town. Her husband died in 1927.
Mrs. Halverson was a member of Hauge's Lutheran church and always took an active part in the work of the church as long as her health permitted. She was a faithful friend.
She is survived by one brother, Nels Fredrickson of Rolfe and a nephew, Roy Fredrickson of Marshalltown and a number of relatives and friends.
Gifts of money to missions in memory of Mrs. Halverson were given by Mrs. Malinda Queensland, Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Halverson, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Halverson, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Rood, Ed and Simon Winsett.
Among those from out of town in attendance at the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Alic Quinslan and Corliss of Nevada, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Queensland and Mrs. H. B. Thompson of Jewell; Mr. and Mrs. Hans Lundy and sons George and Ingman of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Johnson and Charlotte, Mrs. Divon Benshoff, Jr., Mrs. Ray Roe and June of Madrid; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Johnson of Kelley.
