Olaf Berg Is Dead At Age of 74; Rites Scheduled for Thurs.

Olaf S. Berg, 74, of Ellsworth died at the Story City Memorial Hospital at 1:40 p.m., Monday. He had been a patient for six days.

Born in Jelsa, Norway, he came to the United States in 1913 and lived at LeGrand a short time before coming to the Jewell and Ellsworth community where he lived the remainder of his life.

He married Sadie Oxenfield at Marshalltown on Feb. 8, 1916.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 14 at 2 p.m. from Trinity Lutheran Church with burial in Homewood Cemetery at Ellsworth. Pastor Raymond Ehlers will officiate. Becker Funeral Home, Jewell, is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife Sadie and ten children; two sons, Sylvan of Hampton and Omer of Columbus, Ohio; eight daughters, Mrs. Jack Busby of Houston, Texas; Mrs. Virginia Andrew, Ann Arbor, Mich., Mrs. Betty Wilcox, Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. Barbara Omlay [should be Imlay] of Jewell; Mrs. Inger Bell of Des Moines; Mrs. Bill Echelberger of Kamrar; Mrs. Vern Hitsman of Boone; Mrs. Richard Grover of Clarion; 21 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Also a brother, Sam Berg of Jewell.
