DEATHS
Last Rites Held For Former Slater Man
Jerry Ersland passed away at Skiff Hospital in Newton Sunday, Jan. 9. He had been hospitalized since the week before Christmas.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Newton with Dr. Arthur V. Long, pastor of the First Methodist Church in Newton, in charge. Interment was in the Bethlehem Cemetery at Slater.
Jerome was born in Slater on May 15, 1908, son of the late Jacob and Johanna Ersland. He was baptized and confirmed in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He attended the Slater Public Schools and was graduated with the class of 1925.
He was united in marriage to Miss Glenda Morning of Madrid and to this union were born three children, all of whom survive. They moved to Newton eleven years ago where he entered the restaurant business. Later he opened a wholesale pizza business and continued operating both businesses.
Jerry is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Betty) Huke of West Boylston, Mass., and Mrs. James (Joann) Sutherland of Ottawa, Ill., one son, Jerry of Chicago; three sisters, Mrs. H. O. (Marie) Paulson of Forest City, Mrs. P.H. (Ruth) Griffin of West Springfield, Mass., and Mrs. Graydon (Mabel) Stevens of Vancouver, Wash., eight grandchildren and other relatives.
