THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, November 19, 1903, page 1. "OBITUARY - Daniel E. Parr was born in Peoria City, Iowa, November 7, 1875, and spent his boyhood days with his parents in Washington township. He united with the Evangelical Society at Mt. Zion church in the winter of 1893, and served as vice president in 1896. He graduated in pharmacy from Highland Park college at Des Moines, July 28, 1898, and since that time has been following the profession of pharmacy at Altoona, Ill., Maxwell, Atlantic and Iowa Fall, Iowa. He joined Herald Lodge No. 445, A. F. and A. M. at Maxwell last May and was one of the most promising young men in the Order. Continue indoor life impaired his health and last spring he resigned his position in the drug store at Iowa Falls to take a trip to the mountains to recuperate and to get some rest from the busy cares of life. On June 14th he left for the state of Washington and remained there until October 20th when he took ship and sailed to San Francisco, Cal. He reached the latter city on October 24th and went to the St Louis hospital the same day as he was quite sick at that time, he continued to grow worse until November 8th at 1:45 p. m. when his spirit departed from his body. Daniel Parr was twenty-eight years and one day old at the time of his death, thus the bloom of young manhood was just upon him, and his would have been a useful life. One brother preceded him in death and there remains, a father, mother, two brothers and four sisters to mourn his departure. He was an obedient son, a loving brother and loved most by those who knew him best. His father left for San Francisco as soon as he heard of Daniel's sickness, but did not reach that city until the next day after his death. He arrived in Maxwell with the remains on Saturday and the funeral was conducted at Mt. Zion Church on Sunday at 1:00 p. m. and all that was mortal was laid to rest in the Mt. Zion cemetery. Rev. L. N. Day, pastor of the church conducted the funeral and preached a very able sermon. He is a man of great sympathetic powers and knows just what to do in time of such grief. The local Masonic loge attended the funeral in a body and performed their beautiful ceremonies both at the church and at the grave. A large concourse of friends attended the funeral and paid their last respects to one whom they all loved, there being nearly 125 teams at the church and perhaps 400 or 500 people. The floral decorations were beautiful, thus showing the high esteem in which Daniel was held."
