THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, August 26, 1897, page 1, column 3. “Additional Local – Oliver Ozmun died at his residence in Collins Township Monday August 23. The funeral services were held at the home Tuesday, conducted by Rev. Sparks and interment made in the Collins cemetery. Mr. Ozmun was one of the early settlers of this county and has many friends and relatives in this vicinity who mourn his death.”

THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, September 2, 1897, page 1, column 3. "OBITUARY - OZMUN. - Oliver Ozmun died at his home south of Collins last Monday at 6 a. m. He had been suffering for two weeks with ulceration of the bowels. He was a victim of palsy for eighteen years. The interment was in Collins cemetery. The funeral was held from the residence Tuesday afternoon. It was attended by one of the largest gatherings we have seen on such an occasion. The number of vehicles was very large. Elder W. Sparks presided and preached a most appropriate sermon of hope and counsel for bereaved. Bro. J. M. Hall read the following biographical notes: Oliver Ozmun was born in Portage county, Ohio, April 10, 1832 and departed this life August 23, 1897, his age at death being 65 years, 4 months, 13 days. He removed with his parents from Ohio Indiana** while young and came to Iowa in 1855. He was married to Penelope Hutson in 1859. By this union there are five children, all of whom were at his bedside during his last illness, except Clara Warner, who resides in the state of Washington, and was unable to be here. Oliver Ozmun was converted and united with the M. P. church about 1872, and has lived a consistent Christian ever since, so far as he could. He professed faith in Christ on his deathbed and said all was well with him and that he was going home. The children present were Charles W. Ozmun, G. T. Ozmun, J. L. Ozmun and Mrs. L. D. Shearer. Deceased possessed an exceptionally fine character that endeared him to all who knew him. He loved to make others happy and avoided every chance to wound a neighbor by word of deed. His bereaved wife and children mourn the departure of husband and father in the fullest sense; but their cup of bitter grief is tempered with the remembrance that he is numbered among the loyal souls beyond and will meet his loved ones when they follow him across the dark river.
