THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, November 24, 1960, page 1, column 5. "MRS. ELIZABETH MEYERS. - Mary Elizabeth Gooden, daughter of Samuel and Mary Gooden, was born on a farm near Colfax, Iowa, October 14, 1873. She spent her childhood in that community until she was married to Samuel Peter Meyers, February 20, 1896 in Jasper County. They established their home on a farm near Maxwell, where they spent their entire life. She passed away on November 18, 1960, at the age of 87 years, 1 month and 5 days. She belonged to the Brethren Church for many years. To this union was born six children, 4 girls and 2 boys. She was preceded in death by 3 daughters, Hazel and Ina in infancy and Margaret in 1935, her husband, Samuel P. Meyers in 1952, her parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister. She is survived by 2 sons, Kenneth and Keith of Maxwell and a daughter, Mrs. Neva Rodefer of Des Moines, 4 granddaughters and 1 grandson who made his home with his grandparents, 5 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Mrs. Pearl Carr of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Mrs. Ida Turner of Tabor, Iowa; one brother, Oscar Gooden of Reimer, Minn. Also they had in their home through a period of years, Joe Van Sickle, Malcolm Wertz, John Thompson, Douglas and Harlan Martin and Gary Anderson. Funeral services were held on Sunday, Nov. 20th, at the Maxwell Brethren Church at 2:30 p. m., with Rev. Harold Smith officiating. Mrs. Alice Gooden accompanied by Mrs. Louise Smith sang, "Beyond the Sunset," "In the Garden" and "There will be no tears in Paradise."** The beautiful floral tributes were in charge of Charlotte Caple and Lois Aldrich. Casket bearers were Finley Stebbins, John Oxley, Earl Enfield, Brace** Robertson, George Cairns and Dwight Enfield.
