THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, December 7, 1933, page 1. "JOHN MEYERS - John Meyers, son of Samuel and Barbara Meyers, was born in the State of Indiana, May 3, 1856, and passed to the Great Beyond on Sunday, November 19, 1933, at the Iowa sanitarium at Nevada, at 9 o'clock, at the age of 77 years, 6 months and 16 days. He was one of a family of eleven children, having five brothers and five sisters, of whom Sam and Dan Meyers, Mrs. Barbara Gooden, Mrs. Hattie Rupp and Mrs. Mattie Klingaman are living. Two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Faidley and Mrs. Lydia Beal and three brothers, Urias, Henry and Simon Meyers, with their parents, preceded him in death. When a child he moved with his parents to the Meyers homestead, south of Maxwell, where he grew to manhood. August, 1888, he was united in marriage to Ella Witmor, of North Liberty, Iowa, and established their home where he has since lived his life time. To this union were born four children. His wife and two small children preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn two sons, Lee and Ora Meyers, of Maxwell; three grandchildren, Esther, Junior and LeRoy, two brothers and three sisters, a host of relatives and friends. Mr. Meyers united with the church of the Brethren a number of years ago and was a member at the time of his death. His last sickness was but a few days duration, all was done that could be done by loving hands. His sons were at his bedside at the last. He was a kind and loving father, a good neighbor and a friend to all."
