THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, May 1, 1919, page 1. "ALEXANDER LAUGHERY - Alexander Laughery was born July 29, 1835, in Ligonier, Penn., and passed from this life April 22, 1919, at his home in Maxwell, Iowa, at the age of eighty-three years, eight months and twenty-three days. He was married to Celene A. Shepherd April 2, 1868, and to this union were born five children: Mrs. Maggie Wells, of Perry, Iowa, Mrs. Mary Robison, of Nevada, Iowa; Mrs. Fannie Whitney, of Canton, Ill.; Mrs. Edith Mingle, of Maxwell, Iowa, and a daughter, Mrs. Nettie Liggett, who departed this life last August. There are fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. While still a young man Mr. Laughery was converted and through the long years of his life held this covenant sacred between his Creator and himself. With the passing of Mr. Laughery another member of the M. E. church leaves us. He helped bear the brunt of those early days of construction, the fruit of which we enjoy today. He was also a charter member of the Masonic lodge, and for long years was active in its work. He had the distinction of being a Civil war veteran, helping in another important piece of reconstruction which we honor and revere today. "Out of the hitherwhere into the Yon - The land that the Lord's love rests upon; Where one may rely on the friends he meets, And the smiles that greet him along the streets, Where the mother that left you long ago Will lift the hands that were folded so, And put them about you, with all the love And tenderness you are dreaming of. Out of the hitherwhere into the Yon - Where all the friends of your youth have gone, Where the old school mate that laughed with you, will laugh again as he used to do, Running to meet you with a face As lights like a moon the wondrous place Where God is living, and glad to live, Since He is Master, and will forgive." The funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. D. Henry in the M. E. church, assisted by Rev. W. E. Purdy, of the Christian church. Interment was made in the Maxwell cemetery. The entire community extend their sympathy to the family in this hour."
