THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, August 14, 1902, page 1, column _. "Another Victim of Skunk River. Last Sunday evening another victim of Skunk river was recorded when Tolef Holland, of Cambridge, was drowned in the river near that place. Mr. Holland and family and a few relatives were out picnicking and having a seine with them thought they would catch a few fish and fry them and thus make the day and the evening picnic dinner a very enjoyable affair. Mr. Holland took the end of the seine and went into the water and although it was not very deep and he was an excellent swimmer, he sank and could not be rescued. Word was sent to Cambridge and immediately a party of men hurried to the scene and recovered the body after it had been under the water about forty-five minutes. An attempt was made to resuscitate the body, but without avail. Mr. Holland was a progressive citizen of Cambridge and was very popular in business and social circles. This community seems to be especially fated this year on account of fatalities from drowning, but it is hoped that there will be not more."
