R. ROY STEVENSON

COLO--Funeral services for R. Roy Stevenson of Colo were held from the Brouhard Funeral Home in Zearing Thursday, July 24 at 2:00 p. m. with the Rev. Paul Hasel of Colo in charge. Burial was in the Colo cemetery.

Rev. Darald Eller of Zearing sang "The Old Rugged Cross." He was accompanied by Mrs. Mildred Brinkman of Colo at the organ. Mrs. Irene Hemping and Mrs. Berniece Brownfield were in charge of the floral offerings.

The Masonic Lodge of Colo attended the services in body and were in charge of the graveside services. The casket bearers were Bert Olson, Walter Mains, George Rae, Delbert Dickinson, Eldon Schoonover and Chester Dickinson.

Life Sketch

Robert Roy Stevenson, son of Robert E. and Nellie Stevenson, was born Feb. 23, 1884, on a farm southwest of Traer, Iowa, and died July 22, 1958, at the Kirkwood Nursing Home in State Center at the age of 74 years and 5 months.

On March 15, 1905, he was united in marriage to Bertha Carle of Traer. To this union two children were born, a daughter, Mrs. Glenn (Lois) Brockway of San Bruno, Calif., and a son Robert of Colo. They first made their home on a farm near Traer, moving from there to Searville.

In 19-- they moved to Colo where he was manager of the Northern Grain Co. In 1915 he purchased a meat market and grocery store which he operated until 1932. He then worked with his son, Robert as a carpenter until his stroke seven years ago which left him in failing health.

As a young man Mr. Stevenson joined the Tranquility Presbyterian Church near Traer. In 1911 he joined the Masonic Lodge in Colo of which he was a faithful member until his illness prevented him from attending. He was a member of the Colo Board for several years.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two sisters. Surviving are his wife, two children, five grand children and 7 great-grandchildren. Three brothers, John of Cedar Rapids, Paul of Traer, Harold of Greeley, Colorado, and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Wilson and Mrs. Albert McMillan both of Traer also survive along with other relatives and friends.
