THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, February 10, 1916, page 4. "OBITUARY - Martha A. Price was born in Hartford county, Maryland, December 25, 1840. She died at Maxwell, Iowa, February 2, 1916 at the age of seventy-five years, one month and eight days. She was united in marriage to Michael Harmon on August 6, 1857. To this union three children were born, of whom the sole survivor is Henry William Harmon, of Maxwell. The husband died in 1865. In the year 1870 she was married to George Cook. They came to Iowa in 1876 and found a home in Polk county, near Peoria. Four children came to them. Of these, Mrs. Ella Eve Connor, Frank and James Cook, all of Maxwell, survive their mother. In 1888 Mr. and Mrs. Cook were converted and united with the Methodist Protestant church in Peoria. Mr. Cook died in 1897. Three years ago Mrs. Cook moved to Maxwell and made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Connor. She transferred her membership to the Methodist Episcopal church of Maxwell and was a devoted and sincere attendant as long as her health permitted. About nine months ago it seemed evident that she had a cancer. Although everything was done that lay within human possibility to check the malady it gradually became apparent that there was no hope of success, but the sufferer made a brave fight for life, fully realizing the truth and was not discouraged. A personal consciousness of the presence of her Saviour upheld her. She was not simply resigned but cheerful through many months of what is probably the most terrible affliction known to man. At last death brought release from suffering. Of her character the universal testimony is that she was true to her Master, her friends and herself. Besides the children mentioned above she leaves six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and the following four stepchildren: Mrs. Emma Harmon, of Maxwell; G. B. Cook, of Des Moines; Miss Alice Cook, of Belair, Maryland, and Mrs. Mary Fry, of East Prospect, Pennsylvania. The funeral was held at the Methodist church at Maxwell, conducted by the pastor, Frank Bean, on February 4, 1916. The remains were laid to rest in the Peoria cemetery. Card of Thanks - We desire to extend our sincere and heartfelt thanks to those who so kindly assisted us during the last illness and after the death of our lamented mother, and for the many words and evidences of sympathy. Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Conner, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Harmon, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cook, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Cook."
