JAMES VALLEM

McCALLSBURG-Funeral services for James Vallem were held Sunday afternoon in the Bethany Lutheran church with the Rev. P. R. Heller officiating.

The music was furnished by Mrs. Carroll, organist and Mrs. George Knaphus, who sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Old Rugged Cross." In charge of the floral gifts were Mrs. Lloyd Ellingson and Mrs. Petere Egenes. There were many memorial offerings.

Casket bearers were Walter Hill, Orris Strum, Harlan Tjelmeland, LaVerne Osmundson, Roger Menzel and James Lee. Burial was in the McCallsburg cemetery. The Brouhard Funeral Home was in charge.

Life Sketch

Orville James Vallem, son of George and Alma Lura Vallem, was born on a farm east of McCallsburg Dec. 29, 1917 and died March 6, 1958 at the age of 40 years.

He was baptized in the Bethany Lutheran church in McCallsburg and confirmed Jan. 5, 1932 by the Rev. H. N. Bakke and was a member all of his life. He attended the McCallsburg school, graduating with the class of 1936. He also attended Iowa State College.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy Culbertson of Zearing March 24, 1943 and to this union was born a daughter, Susan Marie. After his marriage he was employed by the McCallsburg Cooperative Company of McCallsburg and the Farmers Cooperative Company of Roland until March 1, 1947 when he moved to the farm east of McCallsburg where he farmed until his death.

Mr. Vallem is survived by his wife, Dorothy and daughter, Susan, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Vallem of Zearing; a sister, Mrs. Charles Hulse of Davenport; two brothers, Kenneth of Davenport and Gerald of McCallsburg. A brother Raymond preceded him in death.

Out of town relatives attending the services were from Zearing, Davenport and Cedar Falls.
