Walter Mason Rites Held Here Monday

Funeral services for Walter Mason long time resident of Nevada, were held Monday, from the Ryan Funeral Home at 2 p. m. with the Rev. W. R. Tuttle of the Nevada Christian church, officiating.

Mrs. Harry Sutherland sang two songs "Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden." Mrs. Norman Dobson was organ accompanist.

The casket bearers were Wayne Babbitt, Burnell Hagen, Virgil Haynes, Gene Poush, Ralph Padellford and Ray Prescott.

Burial was in the family lot in the Elwell cemetery.

Obituary

Walter Virgil Mason, son of George W. and Elizabeth Houchin Mason, was born near Logan, Iowa Jan. 4, 1880, and died at Nevada, Iowa Jan. 3, 1958 at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 29 days. He was married to Ida May Allen June 29, 1904 at Collins, Iowa.

To this union eight children were born. Surviving are five daughters, Pearl and Dorothy of Nevada, Ola of Cathlamet, Wash., Fern of Scranton, Iowa and Genevieve of Woodstock, Canada; one son Hilbert of Nevada. Two children died in infancy.

Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 25 great grand-children and two sisters, Mrs. Emory Goff of Ruthven, Iowa and Mrs. Maggie Harris of Emmetsburg, Iowa.

At an early age Walter moved to a farm near Ruthven with his parents. He lived most of his life in Maxwell, Collins and Nevada.

He was baptized as a youth at the Methodist church at Dickens, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers and three sisters.

Muzzy and son Dennis, Woodstock, Ontario, Can., Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Pleshek and Mrs. Marvin Tassler of Des Moines, his sister, Mrs. Maggie Harris, Emmettsburg and his sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Emory Goff of Ruthven; Mrs. Florence Monk and Mrs. Dick Siedler of Emmettsburg; Mrs. Mack Blayney and Mr. Walter Musyl of Sterling, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Roy Harris of Estherville; Merle and LeRoy Wood, Des Moines and Mrs. Darwin Muzzy of St. Paul, Minn.
