Dr. H. W. Bowers Dies Thursday At Hospital Here
Dr. H. W. Bowers, prominent Story County physician, who would have been 74 years of age had he lived until Jan. 22, died at the Story County Hospital where he had been a patient the past four weeks. His invalidism, following a stroke, covered a period of three and a half years.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Memorial Lutheran church with the Rev. E. P. Windman officiating. Burial will be in the Nevada cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Ryan Funeral Home until the funeral hour. A Memorial toward the building fund of Memorial Lutheran church has been suggested by the family.
Dr. Bowers, who retired in 1952 because of ill health had been a physician in Nevada and Story County for 42 years. Coming to Nevada in 1910, to see his brother O. F. Bowers, Nevada jeweler, following his graduation from Denver College of Medicine, and his internship in St. Luke's Hospital in Denver, he decided to remain in Nevada and established his practice.
Dr. Bowers, previous to entering medicine, had graduated in 1905 from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. Last June he was signally honored when presented with a Semicentennial Certificate by the Alumni of that Association.
A past president of the Nevada Rotary club and of the Story County Medical Society. Dr. Bowers was a director of the Nevada National Bank, a member of Memorial Lutheran church, of the Masonic Lodge and of the American Medical Association.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Borgen Bowers whom he married in Nevada, Aug. 15, 1915, by one son Fred M. Bowers of Elizabethton, Tenn. and by two grandchildren, Nancy and Steven Bowers.
He also leaves two brothers, Howard of Montabello, Calif., and Jordon of Skaneatrles, New York and by three sisters, Mrs. Jennie Gladfelter, Gettysburg, Pa., Mrs. Lola Rouzer, Whittier, Calif. and Mrs. Alta Weigle of Biglerville, Pa.
Henry W. Bowers was born Jan. 22, 1882 a son of George W. and Alice Hershey Bowers in Gettysburg, Pa., who preceded him in death.
