ELMER OPSTVEDT
ROLAND -- Funeral services were held Wednesday Nov. 6 for Elmer Opstvedt at the Bergen Lutheran Church. He died Nov. 2 at the Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, at the age of 55 years. The Rev. A. E. Nelson officiated. Otto Hanson sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Just As I Am."
Nephews of the deceased were pallbearers including Joel Chelsvig, McCallsburg, Leslie Chelsvig, Story City, Grant Johnson, Boone, Arthur Holland, Huxley, Harley Chelsvig, Nevada and Eli Opstvedt, Jr. of Roland.
Life Sketch
Elmer Cyrus Opstvedt was born to Torres and Jane Opstvedt on a farm north of Roland, August 7, 1902. He spent most of his life in and near Roland until several years ago when he moved to Ames and was employed by Iowa State College.
He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Isabelle Knutson, Ames; Mrs. Selma Johnson, Roland; and Mrs. Gladys Chelsvig of Story City; four brothers, Sam of Ames; Eli, Leonard and Andrew, all of Roland; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Henry.
