MRS. BESSIE BRUNER
COLO -- Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Lulu Bruner were held on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 21 at 2:00 p. m. at the Evangelical United Brethren church in Colo. Services were conducted by Rev. J. A. Ogden, pastor of the church. Music was furnished by Mrs. Ralph Schnur. Burial was in the Colo cemetery. Mrs. Carolyn Brouhard cared for the flowers.
Pallbearers were Howard Settle, Floyd Settle, D. J. McGinnis, James Allen, Marvin Fernald and Donald Arnold.
Life Sketch
Bessie Lulu Wood was born June 8, 1885, the youngest of nine children to David P. Wood and Harriet Bickford Wood on a farm near Colo, Iowa.
On Jan. 7, 1902, she was united in marriage to Ray W. Bruner at Colo, Iowa. To this union eight children were born. In 1918 they moved to Buchanan county, Iowa, where they lived until 1942 when they moved to Clayton county.
Mrs. Bruner suffered failing health the past five years. She had a heart attack on Monday, Nov. 18, at her home in Strawberry Point, and died a 2:00 p. m.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Eva Jane, and a son, William Woodrow, also her parents, three brothers and three sisters and one granddaughter.
She is survived by her husband; one son, Ronald of Arlington, Ia., five daughters, Mrs. Frank (Gladys) Settle of Paton, Mrs. Marvyn (Dorothy) Fernald of Winthrop, Mrs. Nathan (Bertha) Reed of Cedar Falls, Mrs. Charles (Betty) Popham of Lamont, and Mrs. R. M. (Patricia) Severeid of Los Angeles, Calif. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and two sisters, Eva Cozzens of Hayden, Colo. and Gertrude Ewing of Des Moines.
