Funeral Services For Mrs. Serina Olson Held Saturday
Slater, July 11. Funeral services for Serina Margaret Olson were held Saturday afternoon. A prayer service was held at 1:30 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Fausch in Slater in charge of Rev. H. E. Jacobson. Walter Christopher of Huxley sang a solo, "My Mother's Prayers Have Followed Me."
At 2 o'clock services were held at the Lutheran church in Cambridge in charge of her pastor, Rev. Jacobson, who was assisted by Rev. Peder Buland.
The many beautiful floral offerings paid silent tribute to the memory of Mrs. Olson.
Miss Marie Folgero of Slater and Mrs. Matilda Hill of Cambridge, arranged the flowers.
A number of gifts to the missions in memory of Mrs. Olson were also given by relatives and friends.
Rev. P. E. Onstad of Slater sang a Norwegian solo, "Hvo veed Vor Ner Jeg Er Min Ende." Mrs. Arnold Nerness and Mrs. Jim Woods sang a duet, "Beyong the Sunset," Walter Christopher of Huxley sang a solo, "The Last mile of the Way." The pall bearers were LeRoy Apland of Ames, Raymond Burkhart of Boone, Andrew Buland, Oswald Lewis, Matt Vespestad and John Erickson. Burial was made in the cemetery at Cambridge by the side of her husband.
Serina Margaret Handeland was born in Skaanevik, Norway, on Nov. 3rd, 1867, and died July 3rd, 1945, in Slater. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Ole Handeland.
In the church of Norway she was baptized into Christ and confirmed in her baptismal covenant with God. There, too, she grew to womanhood and received her education.
In 1891 she came to make her home in America. On April 7th, 1894, she was united in marriage to Andrew Olson of Cambridge. To this union two sons and three daughters were born. Mr. Olson preceded her in death on October 24, 1928. Mrs. Olson has been in frail health for many years. She has been tenderly cared for in the home of her daughter, Mrs. many lingering illnesses she has been patient and long-suffering, looking unto Jesus and trusting in Him as her personal saviour In Him she lived and in Him she died, confident in the hope of eternal life. On the evening of July 3rd, 1945, she fell asleep in Jesus after a lingering illness of many months, at the age of 77 years and 8 months. She was a devoted wife and mother and faithful friend. She is survived by five children: Mrs. Anna Christopher of Cambridge, Mrs. Sylvia Berhou of Elkhart, John of Glendale, Calif., Oscar of Des Moines and Mrs. Sadie Fausch of Slater, also three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and a niece, Mrs. Belle Brodie of Des Moines. Blessed be her memory.

G. Brodie, Mrs. Robert Lunnon and son Robert, Miss Bertha Jacobson, Mr. and Mrs. Will Lamb and Linda, McCall Berhou, J. E. Durham, Ruth Durham, Mr. and Mrs. Don Durham, Mr. and Mrs. Millard Framness, Stewart and Marilyn and Mrs. Bertha Eckland, all from Des Moines, Mrs. Marie Apland and Mrs. John Ramsay of Ames, Mrs. Raymond Burkhart and Mrs. Carrie Potter of Boone.
