Funeral of Slater Woman Sunday

Special to the Journal.
Slater, Feb. 13--Funeral service for Lola Doris Apalnd, 18-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anfin Apland of Ames wee held at Ames Sunday at the Adams funeral home at 1:30 p. m. The services were in charge of her pastor, Rev. L. A. Pierson, assisted by her uncle Rev. H. C. Holm of Eagle Grove, who gave the funeral sermon. The vested choir sang two songs, "Abide With Me" and "No Shadows Yonder". Beautiful floral offerings banked the altar and casket. Her sorority sisters, the Alpha Gamma Deltas marched in a body and each one placed roses on the casket. Former school mates served as pall bearers.

Lola Doris Apland was born May 6, 1911, south of Ames. She graduated from Ames high school in June 1928 and entered Iowa state college in the fall of 1928. She was enrolled in the Home Economics course. In June 1927 she was confirmed in the Lutheran church by Rev. Pierson and was a faithful member of the choir. Christmas day, she became ill with the flu which resulted in heart trouble and she gradually grew weaker until her death, Friday, February 8th.

She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anfin Apland, one sister, Miss Pearl Apland of Indianapolis, Indiana and one brother, LeRoy Apland of Chicago. Burial was made in the Bethlehem cemetery at Slater.

The Apland family have a large circle of relatives and friends who sympathize with them in their bereavement.

Among those from here who attended the services at Ames were: Mr. and Mrs Dave Fausch, Glenn and Miss Della Blanche Fausch; Mr. and Mrs. Dave Alleman, Mr. and Mrs. Oley Ryen, Mrs. Christ Ersland and Mrs. A. L. Peterson.
