Funeral Services For Robert Applegate
CAMBRIDGE -- Funeral services for Robert Applegate were held fro the Elwell church Tuesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Rex, pastor of the Cambridge Methodist church in charge.
Mrs. John Cleverley sang "Beyond the Sunset" accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Sigrid Thornwall.
The casket bearers were Henry Thornwall, Leland Gardner, Roy Johnson, Gordon Bullard, Kenneth Jennings and George Edwards.
Burial was in the Center Grove cemetery. The Masonic service was given at the grave with John Dyer in charge.
Obituary
Robert Bailey Applegate, son of Marshall and Maud Applegate, was born at Perry, Iowa, Jan. 27, 1890 and passed away July 6, 1952, having spent the greater part of his life in Story county.
He was a member of the Methodist church, Tabernacle Lodge A. F. and A. M. and New Hope chapter O.E.S. all in Cambridge. He had a wide acquaintance in the Masonic circles over the county and was a district lecturer of the Order. He was a past worthy patron of New Hope chapter and a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge in Maxwell and the Judea White Shrine in Ames.
For the past four years he had been confined to his bed having suffered a stroke in August of 1948. Until a few weeks ago, he enjoyed visiting with his many friends.
Surviving are his wife, Harriett Applegate and three children, Donald, Henrietta and Robert, Jr. of Los Angeles, Calif.; two step sons, Russell Mills of Maxwell and Wayne Mills of Inglewood, Calif., one sister, Mrs. A. M. Christy of Maxwell.
A brother, Arthur, passed away in February, 1944, and a sister, Fern in May 1949. He also leaves four grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews.
