LESTER G. HALTERMAN, 40, died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Halterman, at Nevada, shortly after 10 o'clock Thursday evening, after slashing his throat and wrist with a razor, in a basement room of the home.
Lester, eldest of the four sons in the family, although partially blind for many years, was a hard working laborer and had always lived at home with the parents.
He had been in an exceptionally nervous state during the past few days and especially during that evening and he was in such a state that he took his own life, while the mother was at home alone with him. The father had remained at home during the earlier part of the evening assisting the mother in keeping the son quieted and in an effort to get him to bed and to sleep.
When the mother discovered the act of the son she called the neighbors and they were soon giving their aid while a physician and the sheriff was called.
Later in the evening Coroner Mills was called but he decided the holding of an inquest was unnecessary under the circumstances.
Lester Guy Halterman, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Halterman, was born at Collins November 30, 1902. He leaves besides his parents, three brothers and one sister. The brothers are Harold Halterman of Ames, Howard Halterman of Sioux City and Raymond Halterman of Davenport; and the sister is Mrs. Sylvia Livefike of Davenport.
