Funeral Services at Palestine Church for Peter Seldahl

Special to the Journal
Huxley, March 28--Funeral service for Peter Seldahl were held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at Palestine church following a prayer service at the home at 1:30. A mixed quartette composed of Mr. and Mrs Willie Richardson, Mrs. Carl Reng and Walter Christopher sang "Going Down the Valley" after which Rev. Buland had scripture reading. Mrs. T. H. Mason and Mrs. Carl Reng sang a duet "Have Thine Own Way Lord."

Rev. Buland chose two short passages for his text--part of the third verse in the 20th chapter in the first book of Samuel "there is but one step between me and death" and the 27th verse in the 9th chapter of Hebrews "and as it is appointed unto men once to die but after this the judgment." Walter Christopher than sang a solo in the Norwegian language.

The floral offerings were beautiful and there were many gifts to the missions given in memory by relatives and friends. The pallbearers were Irving Thompson, T. H. Mason, A. J. Iverson, Orval, Leonard and Endren Johnson who acted as pallbearers when his sister Josie was buried five months ago. The following brief obituary was read after the sermon.

Peter, son of Endren and Elizabeth Seldahl, was born August 6, 1866 and passed away March 22, 1938, at the age of 71 years, 7 months and 16 days. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. J. C. Johnson of near Elkhart, three nephews, two nieces and one great-niece.

His sudden death was a shock to the community, although he had confided to those who were near and dear to him that it might be thus. He had been in failing health and under a doctor's care during the winter months but was able to be around and took an active interest in all that was done. His nephew, Endren Johnson who operated the farm, left on an errand in the forenoon and upon his return home in the afternoon the lifeless body of his uncle was found.

The church was filled to its capacity when relatives, neighbors and friends came to pay their last respects to one who had labored in their midst for many years and was called away so suddenly.
