Funeral Rites for Mrs. J. D. Scott at Maxwell Wednesday

Maxwell, July 20--Funeral services for Mrs. J. D. Scott, 74, pioneer of this community who died Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Miles Cook, were held Wednesday afternoon in the Church of Christ with Rev. C. R. Neel, her pastor in charge and Rev. H. D. Robinson of Des Moines assisting.

The church was filled to capacity by relatives and friends to pay a last tribute to one of Maxwell's most respected citizens. With Mrs. Gerton Nelson at the piano, three songs were sung by a quartette composed of Mrs. H. C. Larsen, Mrs. C. I. Kirk, Mrs. Niceley and Mrs. D. M. Cuff, namely "Under His Wings", "Sometime We'll Understand" and "Jesus With Me."

The altar and casket were banked with most beautiful floral offerings as tokens of esteem in which she was held. The thirty-five large bouquets were carried by four of her grand-daughters, Betty Scott, Phyllis Pearson, Bernadine Higgs and De Loris Cook.

Pallbearers were her sons, Cecil, Lyle, Glen, Forest, Burness and Dale.

The pastor read a brief obituary as follows:

Elizabeth Olinger was born July 5, 1865 and ied July 17, 1939. She married Jacob Daniel Scott and was the mother of eleven children, ten who are living and one son, Marion, died in 1925.

Rev. Neel having known the deceased since they were schoolmates and neighbors living on adjoining farms, gave a sketch of her life. While her entire life had been devoted to her home and the church, yet she always found time to extend a needed aid and charity to help her neighbors and friends. Burial was made in the family lot beside her husband and son Marion in the Maxwell cemetery.
