Funeral Services Held at Collins for Late William C. Heintz

Collins, Aug. 12 -- Funeral services for the late William C. Heintz, who passed away suddenly at his hoe her Wednesday evening, Aug. 6, were held at the United Brethren church at Collins Friday afternoon, Aug. 8, at 2 o'clock with his pastor, the Rev. Arthur Marston in charge.

A male quartet composed of Rev. Marston, Milton Hale, E. S. Stuntz and Tom Huntrods, with Mrs. C. R. Stone at the piano, sang "In the Upper Garden" and Mr. Hale sang as a solo "Crossing the Bar."

The floral offerings were very beautiful and were cared for and arranged at the church and grave by Mrs. Anna Moses, Mrs. Milton Hale and Mrs. Geisler.

The body was laid to rest in Eden cemetery at Rhodes with the impressive burial services of the Masonic order being used at the grave. This service, in charge of the Masonic Lodge of Rhodes, of which order the deceased had been a member for 50 years.

The pallbearers were G. F. Holland, J. E. Hale, F. C. Brown, Wayne Hildreth, E. E. Robinson and Harry Foote.

The following obituary was read in part by the pastor.

"William C. Heintz, eldest son of Adolph and Mary Heintz, was born in Somonauk, DeKalb county, Illinois, Aug. 19, 1874, and passed away at his home in Collins on Wednesday evening, Aug. 6, 1941, at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 17 days.

"When but a small child he came with his parents to Iowa, settling first near State Center, and later moving to the farm northeast of Collins. Here he grew to manhood and was united in marriage to Orrie Belle Shearer on May 14, 1889. To this union eight children were born, seven of whom, with their mother, survive. They are Mabel H. Cook of Bangor, Kathryn M. Herdman of Britt, Fred A. Heintz of Des Moines, Charles Heintz, Jr., Lyle Heintz and Alice Marsh, all of Collins, and Wayne Heintz of Reinbeck. Besides his wife and children, he leaves 15 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one brother, A. C. Heintz of Collins. A son, Clyde, one sister, and one brother preceded him in death.

"He joined the Willow Creek United Brethren church near Collins in 1891 and later transferred the membership to the church in Collins. He was a member of the Eden Masonic Lodge and the O. E. S. at Rhodes, and the Modern Woodman of America.

"Mr. and Mrs. Heintz lived near State Center for a number of years then moved to the farm near Collins. A few years ago they moved to Collins and it was here that he passed away. The deceased was well known in Story and Marshall county an was highly respected by all who knew him. His passing will be deeply mourned by his family and friends."
