COLFAX CLIPPER, Colfax, Iowa, 14 January 1905 - "Obituary - Solomon Dickey was born March 30, 1828, in Athens county, Ohio, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. R. Buckley, at Des Moines, Iowa, January 6, 1905, at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 7 days. Deceased was one of the pioneers of Iowa, removing from Ohio to this state and settling near the present site of Mingo, Jasper County, Iowa, in June 1854. He had seen the state transformed from a veritable wilderness into one of the first states in the Union. He was a man of the most sterling integrity, honored and respected by all who knew him. In June 1854, he united with what is now the Mingo M.E. church, of which he remained a faithful member until he was called home. September 12, 1854, Mr. Dickey and Rebecca Barker were joined in wedlock, and commenced life on the new farm upon which they resided until 1897, when they moved to Mingo, where Mrs. Dickey died, May 25, 1902. Nine children were born to them, seven of whom survive. Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Mr. Knoll, were held at the M.E. church, in Mingo, January 8th, at 10 o'clock, after which the body was laid to rest in the McKeever cemetery."
