Last Rites For Mary Nelson Baker In Marshalltown
Last rite for the late Mary Nelson Baker who passed away Sept. 22 were held at 2 p.m. at the Wagner Mortuary at Marshalltown
The following obituary was read at the funeral serviceL
Mary Nelson was born at McCallsburg, Ia., Nov. 10, 1884, the daughter of Ole and Anna* Nelson. Her girlhood days were spent in that locality until she began the study of nurses' training at St. Thomas Mercy hospital, Marshalltown, from which place she graduated in 1917. She continued with her chosen work up to the time of her marriage to Fred A. Baker at Nevada, Ia., Feb. 1, 1926.
The couple engaged in farming at Lake Crystal and Hoffman, Minn., for several years. In 1935 they located at Donnelly, Minn., and made that town their home. Mrs. Baker's health failed in February and she went to Minneapolis for observation and treatment. She was somewhat improved through the early summer and made a valliant effort to regain her health. Sept. 3 she was taken to the Morris hospital, where all that skilled and loving hands could do the relieve hur suffering. She passed out of this life Sept. 22.
The body was brought to the Wagner Mortuary at Marshalltown, where funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 25 with Rev. T. H. Ilten of the Evangelical Lutheran church in charge and burial was in Riverside Cemetery beside her beloved sister Anna.
Pall bearers were George Swinbank, G. J. Smith, T. H. Bullock and John Donnelly of Colo, J. B. Smith and Roy Shepherd of Marshalltown. Surviving Mrs. Baker are her husband, two brothers, Jense Nelson of Benton City, Wash., Nels Nelson of Forest City, Ia., two sisters, Mrs. Erick Anderson and Mrs. Louis Larson of Benton City, Wash., and a number of loving nieces and nephews.
*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: According to the marriage record of Mary Inger Nelson to Fred Alonzo Baker, Mary's mother's maiden name was Pauline Nelson. Also, Pauline Nelson's (died 10 March 1917 in Buffalo Center, Winnebago County, Iowa) obituary names Mary Nelson Baker as her daughter.
