THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, February 9, 1899, page 1, column 4. "Neighborhood News - Sheldahl - Charlie Croft, who met such a terrible death Friday night, was buried Sunday in the cemetery south of town. His taking off was such a terrible shock to his friends as he was found frozen to death near his home. He had evidently fallen from his bicycle which he was riding and being stunned by the fall and no one passing along the road he froze to death within sight of his home. His mother and brothers have the sympathy of the entire community."
