THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, January 11, 1900. "OBITUARY - Samuel Conner, born Madison Co., Indiana May 12, 1834, died in Maxwell, Story County, Iowa, Jan. 5, 1900 - aged 65 years, 7 months, and 23 days. He removed with his family in 1849, to Fayette County. In 1861 he enlisted in the Civil War, in which he served faithfully, until discharged for disability in 1862. 1864 he came to Story County, and in 1866 married Sarah Jane Whitson. To this union four children were born: three sons and one daughter, all of whom, with his wife, survive him, and were present at his death and funeral. About twenty years ago he professed saving faith in Christ and united with Methodist Protestant Church at Peoria City and of which he remained a consistent member until death. He had been suffering years and for several months before death he suffered intensely with stomach trouble, but the evening before his death he fell quietly asleep and next morning gently passed into the eternal morning. He was a quiet, unassuming man, who lived a honest, God fearing life, and the universal testimony of his friends and neighbors is, he was a good man. He died declaring his readiness to go and his unfaltering trust in God. The writer preached the funeral service from I John, 5:5, to a large concourse of mourners and friends, and comrades of the GAR, after which his body was laid to rest in Peoria City Cemetery to await the call of the resurrection morning. S.S.S." CARD OF THANKS "We desire to express to our friends and neighbors hereby, our sincere gratitude for kindness and sympathy during our late trial and affliction. Mrs. Samuel Conner and children."
