THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, October 10 1907, page 1, column 1. "OBITUARY - Eugene Coggshall died at his home in Nevada, Wednesday evening, October 2, 1907 at 5:45 and was buried in the Nevada cemetery Friday after services at the Methodist church at two o'clock by Rev. R. E. Shaw. His death was not unexpected as it had been know for some days that he could not last long. The cause of death was gangrene, contracted from some minor injury to one of his toes about six months ago. The trouble grew gradually worse from the start until it was too late to stop the ravages of the terrible disease. Eugene Coggshall was born at Winslow, Ill., December 22, 1846, and died in Nevada, Iowa October 2, 1907. He was married to Miss Mary Brody, of Winslow, Ill., on January 1, 1873. Previous that time he had come to Story county and acquired a farm southwest of Nevada, where he lived until about a year ago, when he moved to town. To Mr. and Mrs. Coggshall three children were born, all of whom survive the father. The children are Mrs. Lena Bear, of Delores, Colo.; Frank A., of Chicago and Clarence A., of Cambridge. The daughter visited him but a short time ago and did not attend the funeral. The deceased was one of a family of seven children. He was a man highly respected by those with whom he was acquainted, was loved and honored in his family and his death will be deeply mourned by all. Mr. Coggshall was a brother of John and Myron Coggshall, former residents of Maxwell, and was well and favorably known here. Jackson Coggshall, of Iowa Center is also a brother of the deceased."
