Obituary of Mercer Kennedy

Maxwell, July 1--Word was received here during the week of the death of Mercer Kennedy, former Maxwell man, for over forty years a resident of Des Moines.

Mercer Kennedy was born in Iowa Center April 13, 1881, passed away June 22 at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines following an operation. Surviving are his wife and three daughters living in Des Moines, two sons of San Diego, California, eight grandchildren, his mother, Mrs. Bertha Kennedy, one sister, Mrs. Frank Pierson of Eldora, Iowa.

When a boy in school he studied telegraphy, grew to manhood, married and lived in Maxwell, moving from there to Des Moines where he was an employee of the Rock Island railroad company for more than 40 years. Was eligible for a pension but never expected it.
