THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, September 16, 1937, page 1. "BROTHER AND SISTER PASS AWAY - Herman Bratke and Mrs. Emma Hilton Pass Away Within One Week - Herman Bratke - Word has been received of the death of Herman Bratke of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, on Wednesday morning of last week, having submitted to an operation on Thursday, Sept. 2. Herman Bratke was born on the old Bratke farm, four miles southwest of Maxwell, on June 11, 1884, passing from this life on Sept 8, 1937, at the age of 53 years, 2 months and 28 days. At the age of sixteen he joined the army. In 1909 he was united in marriage to Miss Ida Thompson and to this union five children were born, all of whom survives; living on the home place until 1912 when he moved to Canada, where he resided until his death. He is survived by his family, father, A. Bratke, of Maxwell; one brother, William, of Minneapolis, and three sisters, Mrs. Will Hilton and Mrs. Anna Dodge, of Longmont, Colo., and Frances Nelson, of Des Moines." "Mrs. Wm. Hilton - Mrs. William Hilton, formerly Miss Emma Bratke of this place, passed away at her home in Longmont, Colo., on Tuesday evening at 7:10. Body will arrive Saturday morning, after which funeral arrangements will be made."
