HARRY BATES DIED TUESDAY
Brakeman, Who Was Hurt At This Place Two Weeks Ago, Passed Away Tuesday at Marshalltown.
Harry P. Bates, the young brakeman, who was seriously injured February 17th, while tryiing to board the moving train at this place, died Tuesday morning at the hospital at Marshalltown. The attending physicians looked upon his injuries as extremely critical and did not expect him to live any length of time, as his back was broken, from inanition due to paralysis, which was caused by the fracture of the spine.
He leaves a wife and several other relatives, who were at his bedside when he died, and they accompanied his body to Lafayette, Ind., which was his home prior to entering the employ of the M. & St L. last June, during which time he has lived at Story City, having been employed as brakeman on the Story City branch.
