From the Roland Record, Roland, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, October 17, 1912.

RESPECTED LADY LAID TO REST

Mrs. Knut Prescott Passed Away Last Thursday Evening After Short Illness of Two Weeks. Funeral Held Monday Afternoon.

The death of Mrs. Knudt Prescott occurred after an illness of but two weeks duration. Two weeks ago, she with her husband returned from a short visit with relatives at Alden, Radcliffe and Ellsworth and was not feeling very well then having contracted a cold. Since that time she has been poorly, but not seriously ill until the last two days, when she became worse and the end came at nine o'clock on the evening above named.

Brita Oldsdatter Laate was born in Hardanger, Norway, December 25, 1833 and grew to womanhood there, and on November 20, 1912 [year obvious typo in original obit, actual date November 20, 1862] she was united in holy wedlock to Knudt Prescott, who is now left to mourn her death. To this union six children were born they being Knudt, Ole, Daniel, Bertha, Anna and Tom. Four of these have passed into the Great Beyond.

Those living are Mrs. S. H. Jondall, of this place and Knudt Prescott of near Alden.

In the spring of 1868 she came in company with her husband to Lee County, Ill. where they resided for eight years, when they moved to Story County, buying a farm three miles southwest of here shortly after coming here. They lived on this farm until the spring of 1901 when the moved to Roland, to spend he remaining years in comfort until death should take them apart. Her death occurred on Thursday October 10, 1912, she being 78 years 8 months and 15 days old at the time of her death. Besides her husband and two children, she leaves numerous other relatives and friends to mourn her death.

The deceased was a quiet woman, loving her home and family more than all else on earth, and lived a true Christian life. They joined the Lutheran church upon their arrival here, and have since been faithful members of Salem congregation.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon from Salem church, Rev. J. N. Sandven preaching the funeral sermon, after which the remains were interred in the Roland cemetery. The floral offerings were many and beautiful and a very large concourse of people were present to pay their last respect to a departed friend. The Record extends it's sympathy to the sorrowing ones.

Among those from a distance in attendance at the funeral were Messrs and Mesdames K. K. Prescott and family, Ole Olson, of Alden; Isaac Olson, Oscar Olson, of Colton, S. D.; Lars Olson, Carl Roman, Omund Omundson, Lars Varland of Radcliffe, Miss Tena Prescott, of Colton S. D. and Miss Annie Olson of Radcliffe.
