Last Rites Held Saturday in Nevada For Mrs. Raymond Menzel

Funeral services for Mrs. Raymond Menzel, 23, who died at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines Wednesday morning, after a few days illness, were largely attended at Central Presbyterian church in Nevada Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. with the Reverend James D. Ransom officiating.

The many beautiful flowers were arranged by Mrs. Gilbert Henry, Mrs. H. P. Albery and Mrs. L. R. White.

Hale Laybourn Jr., of Larimie, Wyo., brother of the deceased, sang "The Lord's Prayer" by Malotte. Mrs. G. C. Hildreth was at the organ.

The pall bearers were Orville Vallem of McCallsburg, Albert Thompson of Des Moines, Lee Zook and John Hollingshead of Nevada, O. R. Harder of Griffith, Ind., and Robert Abel of Shelby, Montana. Burial was in the McCallsburg cemetery.

The following brief life story of the young wife and mother a victim of poliomyelitis, whose death brought sorrow to all, was read by Rev. Ransom at the funeral service:

Obituary of Patricia Mae Menzel

Patricia Mae Laybourn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hale Laybourn of Cheyenne, Wyoming, was born January 23, 1925, at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and passed away September 8, 1948, at the Iowa Lutheran hospital at Des Moines, Iowa.

During her high school years, she resided at Cheyenne, Wyoming and was graduated from high school there.

She was united in marriage to Raymond Menzel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Menzel of Zearing, Iowa, on February 8, 1943. To this union, were born two daughters, Pamela Rae and Kathleen Loraine.

They resided in Cheyenne, Wyoming and various other places while Raymond was in the service. While Raymond was overseas, she was employed by United Airlines at Cheyenne.

Following his Honorable discharge, they moved to Nevada, Iowa, where they have since resided.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband and two daughters, her mother and father; four sisters, Mrs. Robert Abel of Shelby, Montana, Mrs. O. R. Harder of Griffith, Indiana, Betty Laycourn and Jacqueline Laybourn of Cheyenne, Wyoming and two brothers, Hale Laybourn Jr., of Laramie, Wyoming and Robert Laybourn of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Also other relatives and many friends.

Her ability to make friends and her attractive personality had drawn to her a great host of friends, both in Cheyenne and in Story county, Iowa.

Here From a Distance

Among the relatives here from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Laybourn of Cheyenne, Wyo., Mr. and Mrs. Hale Laybourn Jr. of Laramie, Wyo., Mr. and Mrs. Rober Abel of Shelby, Mont., Mr. and O. R. Hader and Kent of Griffith, Ind., Mr. and Mrs. Archie Menzel of Blencoe, Ia. and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hanson of Blairsburg.

A number of friends from around Story county and elsewhere were also in attendance at the last rites.
