Last Rites For Dan Wear, Collins

Funeral services for the late Daniel D. Wear were held last Thursday afternoon Aug. 24, at 2 o'clock at the home, in charge of the Rev. Henry Esch of Garden City, Minn., former pastor of the Collins Church of Christ.

Vocal music was a trio composed of Mrs. K. W. Tomlinson, Mrs. B. J. Caulkins and Miss Calla Wood, who sang "Be Still My Soul" and "Beyond the Sunset", accompanied by Mrs. Fred Mead on the accordion.

The flowers were cared for by Mrs. Ora Hanson, Mrs. Hugh Fertig and Mrs. C. R. Stone.

Casket bearers were O. A. Caulkins, B. J. Caulkins, E. W. Swanson, Keith Swanson, Glen Mitchell and Stanley Mitchell. Interment was in Collins Evergreen cemetery.

Obituary

Daniel D. Wear was born May 24, 1890, in Illinois, where he grew to manhood, coming to Nevada, Iowa, with a construction crew during the building of the Circle theater.

In the fall of 1931, Dan came to Collins and operated a portable mill. On June 16, 1935, he was united in marriage to Miss Mercie Purviance. He continued with his milling business for a number of years, while Mrs. Wear also continued her work at the Exchange State Bank in Collins. Later, they engaged in farming, which occupation he followed and enjoyed until his death.

He passed away on the afternoon of August 21, 1950, aged 60 years, two months and 27 days, death being caused by a cerebral hemorrhage.

Survivors

He leaves to mourn his sudden death his wife, Mercie; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Plummer Purviance, is well as many friends.

Friends and relatives were present from Des Moines, Diagonal, Shannon City, Afton, Corydon, Newton, Glidden, Carlisle, Maxwell, Colo, State Center, Baxter, Mason City, Tingley, Clear Lake, Manly, Ventura and Prescott, Arizona.
