DEATH-BURIAL: NEVADA EVENING JOURNAL, Nevada, Iowa, Tuesday February 21, 1933, "BELL FUNERAL WEDNESDAY - Maxwell, Feb. 21 - Funeral services for Mr. John Bell who passed away Monday at the home of his son Roy Bell will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 at Peoria. Interment will be in the Peoria cemetery."

THE MAXWELL IOWA TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, February 23, 1933. "MAXWELL PIONEER SUMMONED John Bell, 84, died Monday morning at the home of his son, Roy Bell, following an illness of two weeks from asthma which developed into pneumonia. Mr. Bell is a real pioneer of Maxwell, having lived practically all his life in this vicinity. The last few years of his life have been spent with his son, Roy, in this community and with his two sons, Glen and Burt Bell, in Des Moines. Besides the three sons he leaves four daughters, Mrs. J. F. Conner, of Hazel South Dakota, Mrs., Walter Backus, of Ankeny, Mrs. Charles Byers of Mitchellville, and Mrs. Nellie Miller of Missouri, and one sister, Mrs. A. C. Enfield, of this place. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. B. H. Guthrie, were held Wednesday afternoon a 2 o'clock at Peoria. Interment took place in the Peoria cemetery."

THE MAXWELL IOWA TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday March 2, 1933, "JOHN REASON BELL - John Reason Bell, son of Simeon and Nancy Bell, was born near Valparaiso, Ind, February 7, 1849, and died February 20, 1933, at the home of his son, Roy Bell, east of Maxwell, Iowa, at the age of 84 years and 14 days. He came to Iowa with is parents in 1867 and was married to Mary Scott at Des Moines, January 21, 1873, who preceded him in death March 2, 1928. To this union nine children were born: Mrs. J. F. Conner, Hazel S. Dak.; Mrs. A. E. Tomlinson, who died in 1904; Mrs. Nellie Miller, Springfield, Mo.; Roy, of Maxwell; Bert and Glen, of Des Moines; Mrs. Chas. Byers, of Mitchellville; Mrs. Walter Backous, of Ankeny; and a son, who died in infancy. Also twenty-eight grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. A. C. Enfield. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. B. H. Guthrie, were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, February 22, at the Peoria church. The music was rendered by a mixed quartet, composed of Mrs. J. E. Bowen, Mrs. L. B. Olinger, Lyle Scott and C. B. French, with Mrs. B. H. Guthrie as pianist. Interment took place in the Peoria cemetery. Those from a distance in attendance at the funeral were: Mr. And Mrs. J. F. Conner, of Hazel, S. Dak.; Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Conner, of St. Paul, Minn.; Austin Graybeal, Mrs. Lula Cunningham, Miss Clara Young and Mrs. Will Thatcher, of Des Moines; Mr. And Mrs. Marion Elliott of Berwick; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Bell and Mrs. Burl Bell, of Newton. - Card of Thanks - We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our friends who so kindly remembered and helped us in the sickness and after the death of our loved one and wish to say your kindness was fully appreciated. “JOHN BELL – John Bell, age 84, died at the home of his son, Roy Bell, at Maxwell early Monday of pneumonia. Mr. Bell had lived in the neighborhood of Maxwell and Peoria all of his life and was one of the real pioneers there. Interment will be in the family lot in the old Peoria Cemetery. Mr. Bell leaves three sons and four daughters. The son’s are Roy Bell of Maxwell, with whom he lived, and Bert and Glenn Bell of Des Moines. The daughters are Mrs. Frank Connor of South Dakota, Mrs. Ora Miller of Missouri, Mrs. Charles Byers of Berwick, and Mrs. Walter Backus of Elkhart. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. A. C. Enfield of Maxwell.”
