THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, April 30, 1908, page 1. MRS. RACHEL AXFORD - Rachel Dunlap was born in Coshocton county, Ohio, January 29, 1834, and died at the home of her son Clarence H., in Anatone, Wash., April 19, 1908, at the age of seventy-four years, two months and twenty-one days. She was married to Henry Axford in Hardin county, Ohio, on May 27, 1850. To this union was born five children, Levi, Alfred, Celesta, Clarence H. and Hannah Jane, all of whom grew to manhood and womanhood but Levi, who died in infancy and Celesta died in 1895, aged thirty-nine years. The rest survive to mourn the loss of a most devout and loving mother. She moved from Ohio with her husband to Iowa in 1854 and lived near Maxwell until 1886 when they removed to Nebraska and settled near Harrisburg, where she lived till the death of her husband in 1906, when she went to live with her son in Washington. She was converted to the Christian faith in her girlhood days and lived a true Christian life till the time of her death. She belonged to the Christian church until 1886 when moving into a district where there was no church of her choice she cast her lot with the United Brethren in Christ, where she held membership until called to the church above. The funeral services were conducted at the home of her son by Rev. Miss Alexander, after which the remains were interred in the Asotin cemetery to await the resurrection morn. Mrs. Axford was a sister of Mrs. Jas. Hall and Mrs. J. B. Wells, of this city, and they were expecting a visit from her some time during the summer."
