THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, February 11, 1937, page 1, column 3. "Friends and acquaintances of the Claude Applegate family were grieved to learn of the death of Mr. Applegate, who died form injuries received in a truck collision near Rock Island, Ill., while enroute to Chicago with a truck load of sheep for the Swift Packing Company. The Applegate truck struck another truck which was stalled on the highway. Full particulars of the accident have not been learned. Funeral services were held at the Bishop funeral home at Nevada, Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Mr. Applegate is survived by his wife and two daughters, ages 6 and 4 years."
