JOHNSON BURIED LAST THURSDAY
Young Man Leaves to Mourn His Death, a Wife and Five Children Besides a Host of Relatives and Friends.
James Amond Johnson was born on the Johnson homestead north of Roland on January 15, 1883, to Mr. and Mrs. Elias Johnson. He was united in marriage to Miss Hannah Knudtson of Haugesund, Norway, on February 21, 1911. To this union six children were born, one of whom died in 1916. Until lately he has resided with his family on a farm near Joice, Iowa. When his health started to fail, he tried to do all in his power to combat the illness and sought medical aid, but to no avail. He was at Iowa City for some weeks, but the treatment did not seem to help him and he was brought to the home of his mother and on December 19, 1922, about noon, he passed on to the Great Beyond at the age of 39 years, 11 months and 4 days.
He leaves to mourn his untimely death, his wife, Hannah Johnson and Five boys: Earnest, Harold, Tillman, Elmer and Robert. Besides the immediate family he leaves his aged mother, Mrs. Thorun Johnson, two sisters, Mrs. Caroline Ferkin and Mrs. Isabell Ferkin and five brothers: Joseph E. Johnson of Story City, John E. Johnson of Garden City, L. G. Johnson of Fort Morgan, Colorado, and Eli and Arnie Johnson of Roland.
Funeral services ere conducted from the Bergen Lutheran church on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. M. O. Sumstad preaching the sermon and Rev. Tjelmeland, pastor of the congregation at Joice, Iowa, of which Mr. Johnson was a member, also spoke a few words of comfort to the bereaved family and place a spray of blossoms on the casket as a token of sympathy from the congregation.
