Rites in South Dakota For Rev. A. J. Evenson

Funeral services for the late Rev. Alfred J. Evenson, 74, of Sherman, S. Dak., who passed away on Sunday, Jan. 22, were held at Sherman on Wednesday Jan. 25.

Rev. L. A. Pierson, president of the South Dakota district of the Evangelical Lutheran church delivered the sermon. Rev. H. J. Glenn and Dr. L. M. Stovig brought messages from the circuit pastors and Christian education.

Obituary

The deceased, son of the later John and Malene Evenson was born at Roland on March 8, 1874. He attended Roland schools, Jewell Lutheran college and taught school a number of years. He attended Red Wing Seminary of Red Wing, Minn. and was ordained into the ministry in 1904.

He served churches in Eureka, Kans., Rio, Wis., and Sherman, South Dakota. He was pastor at the latter church since 1919, resigning in 1943, because of his health.

He was married to Nella Peterson in 1904 and she passed away in 1908. He then married Bertha Storing of Slater in 1909.

Survivors

He is survived by his wife, two sons, Alfred, teacher in the Central City, Iowa schools, and Edward, a medical student at Washington University in St. Louis; two daughters, Mrs. Ernest Larson and Miss Jeanette, a nurse in the Veterans hospital in Sioux Falls, S. D., five brothers, Joseph and Ben of Story City, Harry of Roland, Martin of Northwood, and four sisters, Mrs. Clara Cory of Marshalltown, Mrs. R. C. Lockhart of Duluth, Minn., Mrs. Andrew Alvestad of Long Beach, Calif., and Theressa Evenson of Council Bluffs.

Rev. Evenson was one of the original sons of Salem's church in Roland. Rev. Holen sent a message of condolence to the family from the church and the church will also send a gift of money to missions in his memory.
