NELS NELSON
ROLAND--Funeral services for Nels Nelson were held April 4, at 1:30 p.m. at the Erickson Funeral Home with prayer service. Rhoda Marlene and Phillip Nelson sang "Fall To All." At 2:00 p.m. services were held from the Bergen Lutheran Church with the Rev. Allen E. Nelson officiating.
The Roland Men's Chorus sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and Otto Hanson sang "Den Store Hvide Flok."
Pallbearers were Oscar G. Twedt, Arthur Munson, Henry Birkeland, George Thornblade, Paul Comfort and Ben Durby. Burial was in the Roland cemetery.
Life Sketch
Nels Bernard Nelson, son of Bertha and Sjur Nelson, was born in Vikedal, Norway, October 28, 1890 and died April 1, 1958 at the Story City Hospital after an illness of three months.
As a small child, his family moved to Skonevik, Norway where he lived until the age of 12. While there his father, two sisters and a brother died. Shortly after, his mother and the surviving children came to this country in 1903.
He was united in marriage to Jaletta Hanson* of Hjelmeland, Stavanger, Norway in 1914. To this union four children were born, Mrs. Bernice Frette of Story City, Hjamar of Ames, Margaret of Chicago, Ill. and Arnold J. of Nevada.
Besides his wife and children he is survived by nine grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Anna Marley of Denver, Colo. and a brother, Gerhard J. Nelson of Clarkfield, Minn.
Mr. Nelson was engaged in farming near Roland until he retired in 1949. That year he, his wife and Margaret spent six months in Norway.
